10-27 Racism + Speciesism Quiz in class. Best and Worst" for all in pairs
===================================================================================
Extra Credit* for a talk that can be related to The Bluest Eye The School of Social Work Presents: Elizabeth M. Simpson on "Fear of Breakdown: Internal Agonies and Urban Life"Friday, October 28th, 2016, 1-4pm, Utopia Theatre, School of Social Work Free admission.
How do we help our clients when internal reality and primitive agonies are mirrored by the socio-cultural realities of urban "development," such as the collapse of mental health services, systematic oppression, homelessness, and gentrification? Psychoanalytic and social theories offer us a lens to understand how issues of identity and psychic resilience are informed by race, trauma, class, and culture. If we are able to reflect about the collusion of internal and external fantasies and realities, we might be a step closer to providing effective and humane care for our clients.
*Even if you have already maxed out at 100 for extra credit, you can still do the blog for 27 points or so........
