Mid term take home:

Please arrive at a definition or perhaps at two competing definitions and
underlying conceptions of civil society, taken from your readings to date,
freely interpreted so that you may include writers like Ibn Khaldun as
well as Ernest Gellner, Tocqueville, Putnam, etc.  (You have a number of
other readings: try to identify 8 to 10 writers, the more the better, who
express some conception of civil society either implicitly or explicitly).
