*Los Amigos began in October 1990 as an outgrowth of the
Borderlands Breakfast Roundtable in San Antonio. Los Borderlanders
began
in January 1989 when Dora Guerra, then the Special Collections
Librarian
at The University of Texas at San Antonio, invited a few scholars she
knew, but who did not know each other, for a going-away breakfast in
honor of Oakah Jones. The group found the experience to be so
beneficial
that it began to meet bi-monthly. It subsequently grew, and the idea
spread to Austin, the original venue being Mexico Tipico
Restaurante. Los Borderlanders
meet on the third Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and
November at the El Mirador
Restaurant, 722 South St. Mary's Street in San Antonio.
Participation at Los Amigos and Los Borderlanders is very informal and
Dutch treat.
