Annotated Bibliography on Noam Chomsky

1. Achbar, Mark. Manufacturing Consent : Noam Chomsky and the Media. DVD.
Montreal, Zeitgeist Films, 2002.
This DVD (available in the FAC) focuses on Chomsky’s opinions on ideological
manipulation.

2. Barsky, Robert. Noam Chomsky: A Life of Dissent. Cambridge: MIT Press, 1997.


This biography will help us understand the background of his life and help
connect his diverse political interests throughout his life- he write his first
article at 10!

3. Cogswell, David. Chomsky for Beginners. Writers and Readers Publishing, 1996.


Though illustrated, this is the place to start. If one has no idea where
Chomsky is on the political scale, this is an easy way to get a general
overview.

4. Cohen, Noah. “Noam Chomsky and ‘Left’ Apologetics for Injustice in
Palestine.” Axis

This is a thorough critical analysis of Chomsky’s views on Palestine.

5. Collier, Peter ed. The Anti-Chomsky Reader. San Francisco: Encounter Books,
2004.

This is a right-wing attack on Chomsky and delves into many subjects. It will
be helpful to know the opposition to Chomsky during the game.

This article will be a helpful response if anyone attacks Chomsky by saying that
he hates America (as Fox TV personalities have done).

7. Junkerman, John. Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in our Times. DVD. Brooklyn:

First Run/Icarus Films, 2002.
This DVD (available in the FAC) focuses on the September 11 terrorist attacks
and American foreign intervention.

8. MacLennan, Jennifer. Noam Chomsky: Rebel Without a Pause. DVD. New York: New

Video Group, 2005.
This DVD (available in the FAC) includes interviews with Chomsky about Middle
East foreign policy.

9. McGilvray, James. The Cambridge Companion to Chomsky. Cambridge: Cambridge
University Press, 2005.

While this book does not have articles on the Arab-Israeli Conflict in
particular, its authors try to consolidate Chomsky’s theories into themes.
This would be helpful if something happened in the game that Chomsky has not
addressed in one of his books or articles.

This is a helpful summary of some of the baser accusations leveled at Chomsky.
This will be helpful to know what is coming in the game.

Monroe, Me. 1992
Useful words in an interview setting, rather than in denser academic language.

28. Chomsky, Noam. Fateful Triangle : The United States, Israel, and the
Palestinians. Updated ed. Montreal. 1999
One of the premier texts on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict among those who
oppose Israel's policies in regard to the Palestinians as well as American
support for the state of Israel.

29. Chomsky, Noam. Peace in the Middle East? Reflections on Justice and
Nationhood. New York. 1974
Some of Chomsky’s thoughts on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

30. Chomsky, Noam. Pirates and Emperors, Old and New : International Terrorism
in the Real World. New ed. Cambridge, MA. 2002
The title says it all, but we’ll use the examples of terrorism in
Israel/Palestine.

31. Chomsky, Noam. The Culture of Terrorism. Boston, MA. 1988
This gives a concise background on the Isreali/Arab conflict.

32. Chomsky, Noam. Deterring Democracy. London. 1991
An interesting view on how the United States plays a key role in tipping the
scales in Middle Eastern politics.

33. Chomsky, Noam. 9-11. Seven Stories Press. New York. 2001
Interview with Chomsky and a very controversial reaction by him that got all the
right-wing pundits roused up.

34. Chomsky, Noam. Middle East Illusions Including Peace in the Middle East?
Lanham, MD. 2003
A more recent book by Chomsky which takes post 9-11 effects on the Middle East
and closely examines what that fateful event means for that area.

35. Chomsky, Noam. Rogue States : The rule of force in world affairs. Cambridge,

Reflections on the use of aggression in world politics. We will focus on Isreali
aggression.
