“Our geographical knowledge, and even our commonest knowledge of the position of places,” is understood “by reference to the sides of our bodies.” The Sorbonne ProjectsFor my two class projects comparing and contrasting an Ancient European University with my own, I chose the Sorbonne in Paris. For Project 1 I visited the Sorbonne in 1550 and met up with Francois de Montcorbier, reknowned thief and student. We walked around his campus discussing architecture and student life and then we time-travelled back to UT in 2004. For Project 2 I revisited the Sorbonne in the 1890's and hooked up with world famous scientist Madam Curie when she was only a student named Marie Sklodovska. She took me on a tour of the newly renovated "New Sorbonne" and clued me into the lifestyle of a budding college student of her time. |
