Tigre the Cat!
My name is Tigre, which is Spanish for
tiger. IÕm in the process of learning Spanish but I only know cat language at
the moment. My current home is the Austin Pets Alive shelter, but I have been
back and forth from here three times. My recent owners didnÕt give me enough
attention, so I asked them to bring me back. I would love to have some sort of
stability for once in my life. They say that with age comes great wisdom, I am
twelve years old now. Therefore, probably the wisest of this shelter! I know
that twelve years may seem like a lot, but there is plenty of life ahead of me.
It would be delightful to share my knowledge with someone, having a remarkably
high I.Q. and all. These past few years have been filled with ups and downs but
I am ready for a change. I know I could make a difference in someoneÕs life if
I got the chance.
Some
days I am certain that I will go home with a new family, but then they end up
taking my friends instead of me. I am glad that my friends get to go to a new
home, but itÕs sad that I get left behind. I love to socialize with other cats and
especially with new people. I probably hold the record of meeting the most
people here at Austin PetÕs Alive. I donÕt mind coming back to this place
because I am always greeted with warm hugs. However, I do get tired of the
nursery. I would rather have a big house to play in, with lots of people, or a
few (IÕm not picky). I would love a place where I could run and jump and chase
things. I have a gargantuan appetite, but I like to keep a healthy weight, so
exercise is a must for me! Some cats might call me an attention-hog but I
prefer the term superstar! I canÕt help that people fall in love with me at
first sight. LotÕs of people have fallen in love with me but I have never
sealed the deal. I would love a family that is true to their word and one that
realizes how much I will love them. IÕm uncertain of who my next family will be,
but my gut tells me that they will be fabulous!
Let
me tell you a little more about myself. Some of my favorite things are long
walks on the beach, a mouse on a string, and canned tuna. Actually there are moreÉbelly
rubs, movie nights, naps, and adventures. If you ask anyone, they will tell you
that I love cameras. I like the clicking noise it makes. I have been modeling
for a long time now and I have a variety of different poses. Some are on this
blog and if you adopt me you will get to see them all. If you adopt me, I
promise to be your best friend forever. I will try to keep my claws off the
couch, and I will never let you down. If you have dogs, I will try to keep my
claws to myself. I actually get along great with kids as long as they
understand that my tail is not a toy! If you own cats, you might want to warn
them that they are going to meet a superstar. I wouldnÕt want them to be
star-struck.
I really want a family, one that I can
grow old with, a family that will take me to the vet if I get sick, and one who
will never get tired of my love. If you adopt me I promise to make that frown
turn upside down. I will keep you company when you are feeling lonely. I will
watch TV all day with you. You will be my number one priority as long as I
live.
ThatÕs
all I have to say for now! Come by and visit me and let me show you how much
fun I can be. Maybe you will walk out of the shelter with a new best friend. Hope
to see you soon!
When
I first walked through the doors of Austin Pets Alive, my attention went
straight to this orange tabby cat. He sat on a table and stared out of the
sliding door that encaged him. His eyes followed me as I went to the nursery in
front of his. I played with other cats at the shelter, but something inside of
me told me that I needed to meet this mysterious feline. As I slid the glass door
open he jumped off his chair and was mesmerized by the activity outside of his
nursery. He hoped that his day to go home had come. I closed the door behind me
and he continued to stare, distant at first. Once he realized my intentions
were to help him, he pranced up on his chair and gazed at me. Since I own a
cat, I recognized that look. I extended my hand out to pet him and he gracefully
emerged onto the table with excitement. His peaceful purring reflected his
friendly character.
One thing is for sure; Tigre is not
camera shy because when it was time for his photo-shoot he had all the right
poses and faces. The video I made of Tigre can be seen here: http://youtu.be/9pgH1DlUP5M. It captures his personality perfectly. He
disliked when my attention went to another cat; he would follow my hand and
place himself under it. I spent a good amount of time getting to know Tigre,
and I realized his name fit him puuurfectly. Besides being a comical cat, Tigre
is a versatile cat as well. He will have moments when heÕd rather just chill on
your lap instead of chasing the mouse on the string. He knows the difference
between playtime and serious time. Three adjectives to describe Tigre would be,
energetic, adventurous, and loveable. He has enough energy to provide for a
household. He might as well be called Indiana Jones with the sense of adventure
he has. And he has a loveable personality with an immense heart.
His days of being at the APA shelter are
over; he loves it but he wants a permanent home. Tigre wants a family that will
love him and play with him. He doesnÕt mind how big the family is, as long as
he gets attention from everyone. Tigre has been in three different homes; it
was not his fault for getting dropped off at the shelter once more. He deserves
a loving home because he is one loving cat.
My
approach to writing from the point of view of Tigre was a simple one. I own a
cat, and I would always wonder what he was thinking. By simply imagining that I
was Tigre, living in a shelter, and wanting a home, I was able to connect with
this cat very easily. I can imagine how difficult it must be for a cat to move
from house to house, with no stability at all. As a cat, I would want a place
to call home, and a person to call my Òowner.Ó I did not think that the ability
to put myself in the point of view of a cat would come so easily to me, but it
did. When a person transforms into that role, you forget about the world, and
you try to see from anotherÕs eyes. ÒAlmost all knowledge of the inner nature
and feelings of others must come through the imagination.Ó[1]
My imagination switch is always on, I tend to spend the day using my
imagination rather than focusing on the present moment. It has been a tool that
assists me with everyday tasks. Being able to put yourself in anotherÕs shoes
is a remarkable trait. It benefits my creativity and it comes in handy with
assignments like these.
When
I was in the shelter with Tigre, I could feel his anxiousness. He really wanted
to get out of there. It was sad to see him stare out of the glass window,
hoping his day to leave would come soon. ÒWhen a person is moved by the
suffering or distress of another, [they have] a desire to relieve it.Ó[2]
I felt compassion for Tigre and I was determined to write a strong blog that
would free him from the shelter. An animalÕs life in the shelter is never
satisfying enough because an animal will always want the love of a person who
cares and nurtures them.
Moving
from house to house ought to be stressful for a cat. At a shelter, time passes
by and an animalÕs chance to get adopted gets slimmer. However, even when these
animals have been returned several times, they never lose faith. Faith and love
is what keeps them alive in a world full of disappointments. Just like all
animals, cats Òlove humans, and where there is willingness to believe, they
will appear;Ó bringing joy and love into a lucky family.[3]
You may ask, why adopt a cat? How will it benefit me? Well, "of all God's
creatures, there is only one that cannot be made slave of the lash. That one is
the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve the man, but it
would deteriorate the cat."[4]
A family would benefit immensely from the company of Tigre. Tigre is a beautiful
and kind cat, though the world was not too kind to him.

Bio: Wise- Sassy- Wild
Tigre is an orange, male, Tabby cat. He is twelve years old, the wisest cat of APA! He is adventurous and loving. He gets along with kids, adults, and elders. He is social and at the same time he is a good lap cat. He likes attention and likes to talk. He has one of the most unique meows in the shelter. It is his way of saying, Òpay attention to me!Ó Tigre also gets along with other cats, but he can come off as too playful for some cats. He would be okay with dogs, depending on the dogÕs personality. Remember, Tigre does not like to share his spotlight.
Tigre has been to three different households in his lifetime. It was not TigreÕs fault; he just hasnÕt found his soul mate. When looking for Tigre you need only look for his big green/hazel eyes that have the power to mesmerize you! Tigre is a very cuddly cat and loves naps. Another trait that makes Tigre stand out from the crowd is his energy. He is playful and his favorite toy happens to be the mouse on a string. He knows to keep his claws on a scratch post and off the couch. His litter box habits are very good. Most importantly, he is a clean and healthy cat.
The ideal home for Tigre would be a loving family with a lot of free time. This cat needs attention and love. The size of the family is not important, but the more attention Tigre can get, the better. Besides being extra talkative, Tigre is a very wise and well-mannered cat.
All
APA! foster kittens/cats are litter box trained, tested for FeLV/FIV,
spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for worms/fleas, microchipped and come
with a 30-day health insurance plan.
